Rasa: Contemporary Indian
When I think of the word contemporary, it usually doesn't trigger Indian spices, fragrant herbs, and crisp dosas. I think of the something a little more sterile and a little less like home.
So when I discovered Rasa, a new contemporary restaurant next to Burlingame, I was intrigued but not yet sold. That is until I ate their Heirloom beet salad, bomb dot com Bombay Sliders, and their ginormous.. Dosas — wow that last part sounded a bit wrong. Everything I knew and loved about Indian cuisine was challenged by this meal and I walked away with my palette feeling a little confused and a little more refined.
The flavors of each dish were deep and rich but not overpowering — edible flowers on a spiced pancake with tomatoes and gunpowder dust, deep fried cauliflower dusted with chili powder, tangy tamarind chutney paired with a market salad and lentil beignets.
For an truly unique unlikely take on Indian, I highly recommend Rasa. Your tastebuds will thank me for it later.
